Weight loss after surgery is exciting. You start to look and feel better (after the recovery period) and return to normal activities, as well as things you weren’t able to do before surgery. But after surgery the work isn’t over – it’s actually just beginning. Proper diet, exercise, and mental state are important to achieve and maintain your goal weight in a way that is physically and mentally healthy.

Talking to others that are also post weight loss surgery and discussing your successes and troubles is a great way to receive encouragement and strength from people in the same situation. Post-Op support groups offer a safe, comfortable, and engaging environment for those considering weight loss surgery or who have gone through it.

Those who continue to receive support from post-op groups have been found to lose 12% more weight on average. They also get the continued motivation to lose and manage a healthy weight, better eating habits, better exercise habits, etc. Those unsure about whether to have weight loss surgery also benefit from support groups. They can hear real life stories from people who have gone through these procedures and make an educated decision. Support groups are a wonderful learning opportunity, often featuring presentations, discussions, or guest speakers.

The long-term success of weight loss surgery is a long road. Having others to talk to about your experience is important and will help you reach your goals and stay on a healthy path. Though friends and family are helpful, they are not privy to the details of what you’re going through. These support groups are free of charge, and all are welcome. No RSVP required.
