Diabetes and Obesity
“Because diabetes follows a progressive course, often starting with obesity, and then moving on to prediabetes, there are multiple opportunities to intervene early and prevent this devastating disease before it is too late” Deneen Vojta M.D.of United Health Care.
Being overweight or obese is one of the primary risk factors for diabetes
Some studies have shown that gaining just 11-16 pounds of excess weight doubles your risk for developing Type II diabetes. Gaining 17-24 excess pounds triples your risk.
Bariatric Surgery patients are typically at least 75-100 pounds overweight. That means based on the above statistics that it would seem inevitable that most will develop Type II diabetes at some point.
Surgeries like the gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy have been proven to correct Type II diabetes in 75-85% of patients. What are you waiting for?
